Fantastic girl, fantasic location

Hello all,
Happy belated Chinese New year! I hope the month of February was a good one for you all.
I had a splendid February as May was on her way down to school in Australia so she came down early to spend 2 weeks with yours truly.

We had a marvelous time as I think May tasted all of the delicacies that Singapore has to offer. (Actually, I'm quite sure there are many more types of food and great restaurants but since I don't eat out really often, May was only exposed to the few places that I have been too or heard of) We did eat wonderfully well as Singapore is quite good for that - good places to eat. Just a thing about this place - people always eating out and you could almost argue that you spend less eating out instead of buying groceries every week...which is what I do every week but heh, I like making food and having my snacks here and there.

As well, we went to Langkawi (which is a little resort island of the the North coast of Malaysia). I had heard wonderful things of this resort island and we weren't disappointed. We even had some good adventures from the get go. I had been so excited just to get tickets for the Chinese New Year weekend that a good 2-3 weeks before actually going, I realised that we didn't have accomodation. Actually, I always realized we didn't but I am so use to my ways of just going to places and finding hostels, hotels, whatever when we get there. It may take a while and you will get rejected lots but that is all part of the adventure. However, I did try frantically for a week to try and find accomodation by calling over a dozen places and emailing a dozen more. Finally, I settled with the idea that yes, lots of places are completely booked for the weekend, but those are only the places with websites and emails available to my searching. So, we decided to just go up there and see what happens.

We arrived on the Friday night at 11pm and alas, the first 4 places did reject us. After about 45 minutes, we did find a place that a guy offered us. It was quite a dive of a place but we took it as we were tired and he said if we take this for Friday night, he will try and find us a place for the next two nights which we wanted. The only stipulation is that he wanted the money upfront (about 140 Sing dollars)...I complied as I realized we weren't in a negotiating position and I trusted him to a find a place which is all that mattered. If it would be a nice place for that money was another issue....

We didn't sleep much the first night as the bed was horrible (possibly the worst mattress I have ever slept on...springs digging along your whole back...wonderful...) and it was very Asian. I do love it since we are quite spoiled in Singapore with our easy living so I really don't mind going easy elsewhere. The next morning, he did hook us up with a great little place right on the beach. Brand new hotel, new and good facilities. We lucked out immensely so I guess it did pay off to trust him. (I want to go on the record and say May didn't want to trust him...)

We had a wonderful time of eating great Malaysian food (and some good Thai restaurants as well..)... Asian food period was great. Had good times on the beaches and we even toured around the Western part of the island looking for waterfalls that we never did find. (again, I would like to point out that May is involved with this...I drove and she did directions...but a small point so lets not hold it against her)... and of course a splendid 2 hour massage. Love Asia......
But, a great time altogether with May. Wonderful person and we had a ball. We are off to New Zealand to visit Mark in April. Should be a fun week with him and he said he will show us some really wonderful things that NZ has to offer.

On a side note, I found out last week that yet another brother of mine, and his wife, are expecting. Luke and Dalia announced that they are expecting. Late August is the date.... Congratulations to them. I will get to be a first hand uncle over here next year...can't wait!!!

Enjoy some of the pics and take care all. I hope life is treating you well...remember to always find the positives!
